Twilight Insect and Night Walk
Experience a unique adventure with our pioneering tour, in collaboration with Mindful Costa Rica, which allows you to explore the astonishing world of insects guided by an expert biologist. As night falls, insect activity transforms: the exquisite presence of butterflies and bees gives way to fascinating nocturnal creatures such as centipedes, grasshoppers, and moths.
The tour begins in the open areas outside the forest, where you’ll have the opportunity to observe butterflies, dragonflies, and grasshoppers in their natural habitat. You might even encounter a parasitic wasp, whose life cycle requires laying eggs inside a living insect, or see ants diligently tending to their aphid crops.
At dusk, the natural concert intensifies: cicadas and crickets herald the beginning of a sonic spectacle as we venture into the forest in search of tiny secrets, such as opiliones that glow under UV light and assassin bugs—discreet predators lying in wait in the darkness. This tour will allow you to develop a new appreciation for the small creatures that help maintain the balance of our environment.
In addition, you’ll learn about stingless bees and their essential tasks, observing their social behavior up close. Each tour is unique, depending on the discoveries of the day.
Finally, in this forest reserve, you’ll have the chance to observe numerous amphibians—including the iconic red-eyed tree frog—and perhaps encounter reptiles and mammals, completing a journey full of discoveries.
